NAP

For a long time NAP has sponsored a professorship at TU Delft in the field of project management in the process industry. In recent years, professor Hans Bakker has held the position of NAP professor. As of May 1st, Wijnand Veeneman will take over this role. NAP is a platform for companies in the Dutch process industry. Its members develop, build, and manage installations that provide energy, food, mobility, and more.

Wijnand Veeneman: "Many approaches and tools in project management have been developed for a fairly predictable world. The world is becoming less predictable, however. This calls for renewed attention to different aspects of project management, from engineering to contracting, from risk management to stakeholder engagement, from planning to financing. I want to focus on how volatility and complexity are transforming the field of project management."

Since earning his PhD in 2002, Wijnand Veeneman has been working on the governance of complex projects. How do we make key decisions for and within project organisations? This governance question has been central to his research and teaching ever since. His approach always starts with a system-actor perspective, combining an understanding of the complexity of the technology to be realised with the diversity of the people involved—forming the foundation for engineering and project management.

With this appointment, he will further shape the role of professor of Managing Engineering Projects (MEP). Wijnand Veeneman is already a professor of Governance of Infrastructure and Mobility at the Faculty of Technology, Policy, and Management and the scientific director of NGinfra.
